Even Babeu's jail is a rat's nest of inequity, according to both the ACLU and various national and international human rights organizations. It's all in a 2011 report where it states immigrants are frequently denied access to medical care, aren't allowed contact visits with immediate family, cannot have adequate meetings with lawyers, are denied access to necessary legal resources. Those prisoners often are harassed and assaulted, their complaints often ignored by guards or rewarded with the harshest punishment. How about "protective custody," for gays; a euphemism for solitary confinement. He never objected to that. When Babeu was speaking to a gay publication recently (now that he's out), he conceded that immigrants may be "good and decent people," but he denies that they enjoy the protection of our Constitution. Yes, it's true Paul, that the undocumented cannot vote and bear arms, but the US Supreme Court has affirmed that illegal immigrants do have rights under the Constitution. So Paul, you're wrong and un-informed. You're applying the law according to your own sense of right and wrong All you are doing is priding yourself as a strict Constitutionalist while showing us your incredible stupidity about how the U.S. Constitution applies to immigrants. You obviously haven't read it or you don't understand it. You're answer is to build up your armory then cut to the chase.
Hypocrites and political chameleons shouldn't get a pass. Stalwart citizens should. Sure Paul knows how to organize and delegate, but does he know how to officiate as a Sheriff? A leader. An informed and knowledgeable man in charge. Is that what we are witnessing? So far, he doesn't have the concern for the plight of the undocumented. I won't even go into the revelations regarding Babeu's tenure as headmaster of the DeSisto School. Or the allegations brought by his sister Lucy. His judgement and recklessness in his managerial abilities concerns me. He may be a very nice guy in his personal life, but as a public servant serving over the people's interest and budget taxpayers provide him for his Department? To me, he's broken that trust. His "public" inability to get along with our Supervisors is appalling. No different than what Maricopa County Supervisors are having to endure with Joe Arpaio's sense of authority. And to allege it's because of they are Democrats is even more disgusting. Accusing partisan affiliation for decisions is just a cheap shot when nothing else works. Unless a leader can maintain a clear vision of his objectives for the benefit of the public's awareness instead of hiding or supplanting it with their vision of where they want to go with their political ambitions, then they are not qualified for the job, imo. Paul used to neglect the rights of gays and others under his authority until he got caught, so now the chameleon is trying to morph himself into a hero of the gays, the GOP and the oppressed..... why? Because it's in his self-interest to do so. Compassion for Sheriff Babeu? My compassion is for those who suffer under his tough regime while he promotes his self -interest. Paul Babeu thinks he has become the Green Lantern, for the protection of fellow gays? It just doesn't ring true in my book and hopefully not in the LGBT community. The trust is broken....and irreparable imo.
Thank You,
Bambi Sandquist
